Flowers are such an important detail of any wedding. Make sure that you select the right wedding flowers using our helpful tips!

1. Find your inspiration: the first step is to find examples or inspiration for the type of wedding flowers you would like. It is helpful to search for wedding flowers on Pinterest and Instagram and save your favorite flower ideas to a folder that you can later show to the florist.
2. Set a flower budget: Make sure that you decide how much to spend on the wedding flowers before making your choice. Most couples spend about 3% of the wedding budget on flowers.
3. Coordinate with your color scheme: When choosing flowers it is important to keep in mind the decor, and the colors that you have already chosen. Bring swatches of your color scheme with you when going to pick our flowers in order to find wedding flowers that are cohesive with your overall look.

4. Keep the season in mind: The season of your wedding will determine many of your flower options based on seasonal blooms. Some flowers will be more expensive and harder to find in certain seasons. It is important to ask your florist what flowers will be in season around the date of your wedding.

5. Begin with the Bridal Bouquet: When you have a florist and you are otherwise prepared, design the bridal bouquet first. The other bouquets and all flower arrangements should be based on the bridal bouquet as it is the most important.
I like that you suggested having an inspiration first by looking at online sites or some photos that can give you an idea of what you want and compiling them in a folder. I will suggest this to my sister to help her out because they already had everything sorted out such as the catering, venue, and the church. But she still hasn’t chosen the flower bouquet that she will hold on her wedding day because she is undecided of which one until now. She still hasn’t found a florist that she can trust as well due to being undecided.
Hi Millie, suggest to your sister to choose a florist that has the style that she likes. The latter florist will help her on the choice of the flower bouquet. Always trust the wedding vendors you have chosen for The Day!
I like your suggestion to start by designing the bridal bouquet since it’s the most important one and will serve as a good starting point. I’m engaged to get married at the end of this year, and I want to start looking for vendors now so I don’t have to stress about it. I’m glad I read your article because your advice helped me feel like choosing flowers will be manageable.
I’m very happy my advises will help you out planning your wedding! Don’t hesitate ask any question whatsoever 🙂
Choosing your wedding flowers is an exciting and tough task because there are so many options to choose from and so many arrangements to create, it can be difficult to decide on the perfect blooms for your big day. But your handy guide makes it quite easier for couples to decide and grab the perfect blooms within budget.
I like how you said to start with choosing the design of bridal bouquet first. I would have probably gone for the centerpieces first. I can see though how doing the bouquet first, all the other flower arrangements will then be based on it instead of the other way around.
Hi Elisabeth, if you wish you can start from the centerpiece as well. Each bride has to follow her feelings and plan a wedding that mirrors her personality. Good luck!
I love how you talked about starting with the bridal bouquet and how it is important to design it before the others as they are based on it. My best friend is getting married next month and asked me to be in charge of finding the flowers for her reception. I will be sure to keep these tips in mind as I search for a professional to work with.
Hi Viv,
thank you for your message. I’m glad my blog helps you out. When you research for a professional figure to work with look carefully their Instagram profiles making sure that the pics posted are their “own work”. Social media are very tricky
I thought you made a great point when you explained that it is important to keep the season your wedding will be held so that you know what kind of flowers will be cheaper to purchase. My sister and her fiance are getting married soon, and she wants to get some red flowers to match the color scheme. I’ll be sure to mention to her that she consult with a florist so that they can get the right ones for her.
Hi Dennis,
very pleased to be of help.
If your sister likes red color flowers I suggest to match the mise en place as well. In this case my hint is that of choosing red color water glasses (not the wine ones – wine taster wouldn’t be happy of not being able to see the color of the wine).
I bet the visual effect will be spectacular. If you write me an email I can send you a pic to show you the final result.
Good luck!
Dear Dennis,
Color scheme and season match the perfect flowers’ choice! If there is a very good balance between these two factors make sure that you’ll be right. Red flowers are typical of extroverse and self-confident personalities, is your sister like that?
I liked that you mentioned you need to consider the season of your wedding to know what flowers you will have available to use. My sister is getting married in a couple of months, and we are looking for advice to help her during the planning process. I will let her know about the importance of considering the season of her wedding to choose the right flowers.
Hello Ellie,
where is your sister getting married? I might know someone for you.
In any case when you’ll research a professional figure to help your sister look carefully their Instagram profiles making sure that the pics posted are their “own work”. Social media are very tricky.
On top of that, you’r sister shall choose someone that matches her own style and tastes.
I wish to you and your sister all the best!

It was really helpful when you said to set a budget for the flowers. My wedding is coming up in a could of weeks and I’m needing to find a florist so that I can choose the wedding flowers soon. I’ll make sure to keep this information in mind as I search for flowers for my wedding.
You made a good point about considering a budget for the flower arrangements, and not overpass the percentage most couples set. My daughter will be getting married by the end of the year, and she wants to prepare for the wedding. We will be sure to hire a florist that will help us keet a budget with the arrangements, so thanks for the help.
First, we wish your daughter a shining day! Second, thank you very much and don’t hesitate to contact us for whichever kind of wedding tip…
I am glad you explain the importance of starting with the bridal bouquet and then designing everything else after that bouquet. My fiancee and I are in the middle of planning our wedding and we haven’t yet begun the search for a florist. I think we should find a florist that can help us achieve our vision within our budget.
Yes! Try to draft a moodboard before selecting all the vendors. That will help both you and the professionals to create the wedding you want!
Good luck !
I loved your ideas to look at examples and inspiration for your wedding flowers, and figure out what season your wedding will be in to know what flowers bloom at that time. My niece and I are very close, and I am trying to help her find a florist in Canberra for her big day in September. I think she’d appreciate these tips to help her find the right flowers for her.
Wow I wish I could see your niece wedding in Canberra. Very nice of your helping.
Don’t forget also to draft a cost breakdown Sheet to avoid going over budget!
Good luck!
I like that this post reminded us to gather our inspiration for the type of flower arrangements that we would want before we hire a florist so that it will make the discussion much easier. My niece is getting married next month and she has yet to make a decision for her wedding bouquet. I will remind her to set a budget and also focus on the color scheme before she meets with prospective florists.
Correct! All the above mentioned topics are really important for the planning. Try to draft a mood board with a selection of Colors and Flowers. Don’t forget also to draft a budget sheet!
Wow, thank you so much for pointing out that you want your color scheme to be reflected in the flowers you pick. I loved your suggestion to take color swatches to the flower shop. My sister got engaged about a month ago, and we are so excited to plan out the wedding. I can’t wait to start looking for flower shops that can get her her dream flowers!
Yea flowers make the wedding, good luck to your sister!
I agree that you want to research a few types of flowers that you like before choosing a florist. Approaching someone with a base level of knowledge would help you know they are qualified. My fiancee and I are looking for floral arrangements for our wedding, so we’ll have to consider a few flowers we like before choosing someone to help us.
Yes! You should do a bit of research and reach vendors with a few pics of things you like such as flowers, decors, mise en place etc…everything will be more easy for you to plan!
Thanks for these tips on how to find a good wedding florist. I agree that you want to consider spending about 3% of your wedding budget on flowers. My fiancee and I are looking for a florist, so we’ll have to check our budget first so that we know how to spend.
I agree. The budget is very important on a wedding. The risk is that you spend to much on a vendor and go over budget. Good luck and congratulations on your engagement!
